I was lucky enough to be invited as a guest of ‘Seiko’ – the official sponsors of the IAAF World Championships at the London Stadium, Olympic Park. To explore, experience and take YOU behind the scenes of the games; seeing how the cogs turn, to produce the visual spectacular that unites our world through sportsmanship: The IAAF World Championships.
As I sat on the finishing line of the IAAF World Championships, spectating the closing moments of each race as the athletes press their torsos over the line. I question how they decide who wins such close 100m heats, when to the human eye it looks to be a tie. It is thanks to the height of camera technology, sponsored by Seiko watches that takes a picture of time in space, which is the opposite to how your phone would take a photo. Our photos are ‘A place/space in time’ the camera technology used at the IAAF World Championships is taking a ‘photo of time in space’. So when we were shown a picture from the camera and were asked where is the finish line? The answer was: The entire image was the finish line. And therefore allowing the adjudicators to decipher the order in which the athletes crossed the line, and therefore who is the winner.
This technology at the IAAF World Championships proudly displaying the ‘Seiko’ logo resembles Seiko’s precision engineering, great attention to detail and beautiful results.
The watch I am wearing here is the ‘Astron AX82’ and it couldn’t be better suited sitting proudly upon the finish line. The end goal, the final hurdle and the winner of luxury time keeping pieces. The Astron AX82 from Seiko watches has GPS controlled time zone adjustment. Wherever you are in the world, at the simple touch of a button satellites control each time ticking hand precisely across 39 different time zones. With a perpetual calendar correct to the year 2100, daylight saving time function, power save function, a sleek titanium case and bracelet this Sapphire crystal and antireflective coated watch from Seiko goes beyond the ideology of time keeping. Exceeding expectations by combining artistic design, futuristic technology and practicality onto a ceramic bezel to make the time, your time.
The pride and passion that Seiko have for producing state of the art watches echoes around the IAAF World Championships arena; beautiful displays, perfect colour coordination, correctly placed monitors and extremely high production values as the events seemed to effortlessly flow from one to the next. Everything felt sharp, precise and passionate; from the intense passion of the athletes on the track, to the proud passion of representing such an iconic luxury watch brand: ‘Seiko’ from my seat. An aura of unity, celebration and precision. Thank you for having me at the IAAF World Championships Seiko. Sadly both GBR athletes Katarina Johnson-Thompson and Holly Bradshaw missed out on medals on their home turf but the support for them both was noticeably strong inside the stadium, supporting their ambitions to move forwards into the next athletic IAAF World Championships.
There has been past IAFF World Championships, we are enjoying the present IAFF World Championships, there will be future IAFF World Championships but there will always be Seiko watches. Browse the range of luxury time keeping pieces to assist you on your journey.
