We all have an idea of where we want to be heading. We all have people and ideas that motivate us – keeping us on the straight and narrow to achieve that ‘goal’. The biggest problem I have faced is a lack of self-awareness. I find it all too easy to follow a random to-do list and just think I’m doing the right thing in the moment. The issue with that is time passes by and you feel like you are still in the same place. Getting stuck in that rut is what causes sparks of anxiety and potentially mild depression, leaving your mind in a place that doesn’t help you move forwards and motivation can drop off.
How do I go about achieving my goals? In quite a simplistic way – the theory is the simple part, it’s always a question of ‘can I follow these steps through?’. The way I work it all out is: I write down on a sheet of plain paper ‘I am here’ on one side and ‘I want to be here’ – join the two together with a line. Then work backward from your goal to where you are today. This will create a list of things you need to do to get where you want to be. The next part is self-explanatory. Just follow the steps you have just written for yourself. Keep that piece of paper, keep referencing it because this will keep your progress in perspective. It doesn’t have to be 10000 steps long, but it will help your mind understand the path you are walking down, and each time you tick off one of those steps you will realise you ARE on the right path and you are a step closer to where you want to be. It is then just a matter of time. You will get there, you will achieve it – whatever it may be. If you don’t you’ll die trying and then you won’t know anyway. Either way, you will achieve that goal. You will hit that target and you will get to where you want to be.
The only person standing in your way is YOU and your own mind. Take time to invest in yourself, understand what you are capable of and the best way for you to work – that’s going to reduce the time it takes you to tick off those bits you need to do to achieve your goal. Something I have realised recently is how powerful my mind can be. We are wired to make up excuses and I am extremely guilty of that. You can talk yourself out of the smallest of tasks in seconds. So stop. Take control, take ownership of your thoughts and help yourself by setting that little negative voice inside your head to one side. The more you learn that the more you will grow and develop.
The third thing you need to keep in mind is; knowing your worth. If you are keen and eager to achieve something you will meet people along the way who are ready to exploit your hard work, dedication, and talent for their own financial gain. You can create your own standards, determine the value of your work and determine how you should be treated by others. Of course, this ties in with keeping things in perspective as something is only worth what someone else is prepared to pay for it. Be optimistic about your plan but keep everything in perspective with a hint of realism. The more real you are with yourself the faster you will develop. If you set an unrealistic goal and you don’t achieve it you begin putting pressure on yourself that didn’t even exist in the first place.
Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t. And I mean anyone! I have had teachers, family, partners, friends and colleagues all tell me ‘you can’t’. “Ollie that just doesn’t happen”, “yes but Ollie how are you ACTUALLY going to do that”, “Ollie that’s too much of a saturated market” etc…. The list goes on. But what I think every time I hear something like that is “yes, but I haven’t done that, I haven’t tried that, people haven’t heard what I have to say and people haven’t seen my take on that”. If someone says you can’t be a comedian – take your phone and record a set and post it online – bam! You are a comedian. If someone says you can’t be a model – take photos of yourself with others and post them. BAM – you are modeling. Do you see where I am coming from? The internet gives you a whole world of opportunity right at your fingertips – it’s up to you how you use it and what you can make of it. Remember some of the biggest artists and personalities we know of today were found online!
Keep your thoughts organised and enjoy the process of figuring it all out – it’s all part of the fun.

Modern life is hectic. The to-do list never stops growing, and the phone never stops buzzing. Living life in London in 2018 as self-employed means that every day is some sort of a workday. This usually includes the weekend. Not this weekend. This weekend I am partnering with Ted Baker, slipping on a pair of Ted Baker BRONZO boots out to reclaim my downtime, disconnect and revel in some old-fashioned ‘offline’ fun. First stop: Portobello Road Market, Notting Hill.
Notting Hill is home to the most famous door in Notting Hill. 280 Wilbourne Rd (just off Portobello Road). It’s the front door of Hugh Grant’s house from the feature film ‘Notting Hill’ – it made its way into the film because screenwriter Richard Curtis used to live there! Sadly the door was then sold at auction and later owners painted the new door black as people kept writing on it. The current owners have however re-painted it blue!
Protobello Road Market draws thousands of people to the area. On Saturday’s, market stalls set up to sell original products as well as antiques. From fully reported 19th century telephones to pocket watches and hats – portobello road market oozes tradition and British heritage. Stepping out in my Ted Baker BRONZO Boots, coupled me to the local vintage aesthetic, while enjoying maximum comfort as I explored the various market stalls and shops that line our iconic Portobello Road Market.
*Style Tip* To make your footwear your statement piece – wear one block colour that sits opposite the colour of your footwear in the colour wheel. If the shoes are dark keep your outfit light. If your shoes are light – keep those clothing pieces dark. This will make a statement of your footwear and showoff your stylish footwear.
You know how fun life today can be, it’s cool – we are all living in one of the greatest times that have ever been. But to appreciate where we are, I enjoyed taking a trip down memory lane on Sunday. Reclaiming the second half of my weekend with a visit to ‘The Wallace Collection in my Ted Baker SHINDL Trainers’.
The Wallace Collection is a national museum in a historic London Town house. There are 25 galleries, displaying 18th-century paintings, furniture and porcelain and a world class armoury. It’s like taking a step back in time. The decor, paintings and furniture are absolutely stunning. Each room is like a little movie set – perfect for taking photos!
Comfortably exploring and walking around the Wallace Collection in my Ted Baker ‘SHINDL Trainers’. Worn with Ted Baker trousers, the two couple together for a smart casual look. Looking smart and feeling comfortable often don’t go hand-in-hand with blistering ankles – but not with these Ted Baker ‘SHINDL Trainers’ – they also look the part!

In a league of its own and uncomparable to competitors, the Foreo Issa carves a mark within the dental industry of its own. Recharge via USB (cable included). The Polymer bristles will last so much longer than a regular toothbrush. I’m not usually a fan of an electric toothbrush but the Foreo Issa bridges the gap between manual and electronic toothbrushes. The Freo Issa massages the gums and inhibits overbrushing, preventing damage to tooth enamel. Plus… it looks good. That bathroom shelf will be looking fly with a Foreo Issa on it ;). Having been lucky enough to own a few Henry watches (as photographed), the minimalistic design and perfect colouring make each timepiece from Henry London stand out. My Henry watch is one of the lower costing watches I own, yet it always receives the most questions and compliments. Henry watches are perfectly priced, perfectly designed, perfectly manufactured and perfect for under your tree this Christmas.
Remember I did a fitness class balancing on a board on water?.. If you have no idea what I’m talking about: I recently was invited to Bose’s aqua fit class at the Haymarket Hotel to experience a fitness class, on a balance board (I fell in, it was in my IG story, it was fun). It was all part of raising awareness for Bose’s brand new product: The SoundLink Micro. Having experienced an in-depth product demonstration, throwing one into the pool and then taking one home – it’s safe to say Bose have done it again! I own the mini link II, but the micro is now my go-to speaker. It’s Water resistant!! What a bonus. With similar sound quality as the mini link II but to be smaller, brighter coloured and a lower price makes this the ultimate wireless bluetooth speaker to gift this Christmas. If you buy two you can use them in party mode – play the same track through both speakers at the same time or put them in stereo mode and one will play the Right while the other plays the Left parts of the studio track. Cool right? Shop the Soundlink Micro below!
